Don't Push Your Immature Child Into Pre-Kindergarten

If you have a child that meets the age requirement to start Pre-K, should you automatically send him along with the rest of the kids? Ask these questions, does he have delayed speech compared to other children his age, is he socially and emotionally mature enough, and will he be one of the youngest in his class? Even though you observe a very bright child you still should think long and hard before enrolling him in kindergarten.

Generally speaking in Pre-K it is the youngest boys who seem to struggle the most to adapt to school routines and procedures. Their age causes them to lack adequate social skills and they often have short attention spans making it more difficult for them to learn and retain concepts as compared with children who are older. At this age, months tend to be vast time periods; therefore you should pay close attention to your child's development.

Your bright young little boy will make gains in maturity in the coming year, however it is possible that he will not overcome his speech problems or his immature emotional reactions by the time he is four. Another factor, especially with boys, is that they can become targets for the more aggressive boys in the class and cause a lot of frustration.

Many people are not aware that our school taxes pay for speech evaluations and therapy should he qualify; a three year old could be receiving speech therapy in his home school. You certainly want to take advantage of this opportunity.

Questions to Ask Preschools

Getting your small child ready for preschool is a wonderfully exciting time. Playing and growing alongside other children is necessary for healthy development and social skills. But it is only natural that every parent wants only the best for their children. Picking the right preschool is not as simple as flipping through the phone book. There are a few things you may want to keep in mind as you conduct your search.

One of the first things parents should ask a potential preschool is what types of things they will be teaching the children. Do they have a fixed daily schedule that involves specified curriculum? If your child has a tendency to learn faster or slower than the average child, this is something that you need to know. Having a frustrated child should not begin as early as preschool. Ask any questions you have regarding the actual teaching that will take place.

If you have any religious or personal beliefs that you strongly hold to, you may want to ensure the preschool of your choice fits that as well. Sending your child somewhere that may not share your beliefs is not something most parents want. There is no harm in asking what the school promotes as values and beliefs. It is your child and it makes sense that you want them in a place that encourages what you have taught.

Discipline of children is a very touchy issue for some people. Some schools may have different methods of this than others so be sure you know how they will discipline your child if he or she misbehaves. While most public schools opt for things like time out, some private schools still engage in spankings which must be done with the permission of the parent. Discipline is your personal business but it must match the school.

Your child's safety should always be your main priority. It is a good idea to ask if your preschool conducts criminal background checks on the teachers and other staff members that they hire. Some places do not do this and that ca lead to a problem if a potential criminal is overlooked.

Every preschool should have a well laid out plan for fire escape and First Aid situations. Ask if the teachers have had First Aid training. They should all have a certificate to prove this as well. Accidents can and will happen but if there is proper response planning the results can be positive rather than negative. Fires can happen and every school needs a fire escape route that the children learn and remember. Cover all safety aspects with potential schools before making a final decision.

Most importantly perhaps is how you feel about the school as a parent. Trust your instinct, it is rarely wrong. If anything makes you uncertain or uncomfortable about a school, go on to the next one. Don't ignore doubts or negative sensations. Make a list of questions you want answers to and don't hesitate to ask them. A good preschool will pass with flying colours.

Your Child's First Day of Kindergarten

The first day at school for most kids is a terrifying experience. Being away from home alone for the very first time, and not having parents there to hold their hands, most kids will most likely start crying and refuse to go to school the following day.

While some children get over their phobia of going to school very quickly, there will always be a few who will take a lot longer to get used to the fact that they can't be at home with you everyday as they used to.

Some lucky parents just get crying kids who sulk, other unfortunate ones get cranky kids who yell and scream or even worse, absolutely refuse to go to school. So what do you do when your kid just makes things hard on you and tests your limits?

There are multiple ways of dealing with kids like this, and there is no correct way. Every child is individual and will require different mythologies. Only you will know your child best and what the appropriate course of action should be.

Either way, you need to let your little boy or girl know that not attending school is not an option. You need to stand your ground and be authoritative. Whatever you do, do not bribe your children into going to school, that is just asking for trouble down the road. Lines like "Mommy will buy you a toy car if you be good" will just back fire and you'll eventually need to buy a toy car every time you want your kid to do something.

If the child already has an older sibling who's already attending school, then it is more likely that he or she will be eager to go as well. If you meet with some resistance, utilize your cunning and get the older sibling to encourage the younger one, making it clear on how great fun kindergarten or primary school can really be.

In conclusion, you will need to learn how to as well as what motivates your child to become enthusiastic about school life. Avoid any lectures about how beneficial school can be when they grow up or how they need to behave well in school - kids just do not get excited about things like that. You need to keep selling them the idea of fun to win this tug of war.

Preparing Your Kids For Kindergarten

The adjustment from staying home with Dad or Mum every day to being in an institutionalised setting is one that your child will cope with better with some preparation. When we think about preparing our child for the first day of kindergarten we understand the importance of mastering some basic academics. But there is also the social aspect of integration that needs to be addressed with your child. Some helpful activities you can do at home can give her some additional skills to make her transition a lot smoother.

Develop your Child's Independence
The more independent your child becomes before starting kindergarten, the less stress they will feel on their first day. In the year preceding that big day, you should begin to work on some skills at home that can foster self-reliance. Teach your child some basics around the house, like picking up their toys, dressing themselves, brushing their own teeth and styling their hair. In order to prepare them for lunch in the school cafeteria, go out to eat at a buffet-style restaurant and let your child carry his/her own tray. The more you let them take the reins, the more confident they will feel.

Basic student tasks like holding a writing instrument, drawing the basic shapes, coloring a picture and answering questions without mumbling are things that can be worked on well before the first day of kindergarten. Additionally, you should make sure your child has a grasp of the alphabet, numbers and vocabulary. It's important to equip the child with this knowledge to avoid the need for remedial help in the classroom. Your child's comfort with these skills will make the first day smoother for the teacher as well as the child.

Socialising Your Child
Including your child in family banter will help in the development of your child's personality. With your guidance, they will learn to listen for understanding. They will learn to ask intelligent questions and even learn to understand humor. Your child may even make simple jokes once they start to learn these higher functioning skills.

You should observe and guide your child's development of simple social skills. Introduce them to new people often, adults as well as children. This will come in handy when meeting a classroom of strangers with your child first arrives at kindergarten. Understanding authority and obeying rules is also important. The more interaction your child has with others, the better their social skills will be. Without these skills, your child will have unnecessary stress in social situations. Making sure they feel comfortable in social environments will ensure their making friends easily and enjoying a happy social life.

Give Them Strength
Kindergarten is the beginning of a child's education and it sets the tone for his/her attitude towards school for the rest of school careers. By teaching your child some basic life skills, you can facilitate a more positive, creative and enjoyable learning environment for them.

Kindergarten Activities - Creative Kids Math

How do you identify creative kids?

1. They are imaginative, resourceful and uninhibited.

2. They are open to new ideas and see things in a different way.

3. They are curious, alert, and adventurous and risk taking.

4. They are independent in thinking and social behavior.

5. They are inventive and good at solving problems.

6. They love challenges and are easily bored with routine and mundane tasks.

Kindergarten activities which develop creative thinking encourage the kids to think critically, using their existing knowledge to explore new ways of thinking. We can incorporate language, music or math into these activities and for this article we will discuss on using math to develop creativity.

Whenever the word math is mentioned, numbers and formulas come into the picture. Math is more than just number crunching but when it is being introduced to kids creatively, can improve skills like reasoning, logic and problem solving and also widen the kids understanding of Math to a wider scope as listed below:

1. To enable the kids to sort objects in a logical series according to size, shape or any other characteristic.

Find objects of different shapes like a book, a clock, a piece of sandwich or pizza, a photo frame, a ball, a pencil case. Put them together and ask the child to group them according to their size. For example a book is a rectangle, what other objects here are rectangle shapes.

You can invent different kindergarten activities by finding objects of different sizes or talk about animals and ask them what animals are big and small.

2. To enable the kids to understand the concept of numbers by letting them have direct experience with objects as the kids will discover that numbers are not just digits but extend to our everyday lives.

Kindergarten activities which kids under five need are songs, rhymes and finger plays that include numbers like Little Indian Boys/Girls, while singing, finger play with them, show your fingers while singing One Little, Two Little, Three Little Indians and so on.

You can also ask questions like - Mummy bought 5 apples and put them in the refrigerator yesterday. You ate one apple and Daddy ate two, so how many apples are in the refrigerator now? Allow the kids to answer and ask them to check the refrigerator to see whether they are correct.

3. To develop their spatial skills by discovering how to fit things together, take things apart, rearrange things and navigation.

Kids with well developed spatial skills are very creative, dramatic, artistic and musical. Some kindergarten activities which encourage spatial skills are playing with Lego, tangram, mazes, play dough and chess.

Engage your kids in creative thinking activities the whole day while you are preparing your meals, gardening or clearing your laundry by asking open-ended questions which are worded in such a way that there is no one correct answer. An example is while clearing your groceries asks your kids what they can do with this tomato. Open-ended questions like this engage the kids in divergent or creative thinking to come up with a whole range of brilliant and imaginative ideas.

If you want to play more of such creative kindergarten activities for child development, you can visit http://www.gamesforfunkids.com as they have more than 360 of such activities.

Making Learning Toys - The pinhole projector

This projector mounting hole shows the principle of early photography and the nature of light. For this great educational toys all you need is an empty Pringles, some leaves or silver wrapping paper, tape, scissors and a hammer and nail.

First, you need about 5 cm from the bottom of Pringles and a small hammer and nail, Pierce a hole in the center of the base metal at the bottom of the piece you cut out five centimeters. This hole islet the light in a straight line of whatever appears in the pinhole projector.

Next, you must combine the plastic cover on the top tube of Pringles and tape the two pieces back, but this time cut with the plastic cover on the opening side of the square of 5 cm piece of pipe. The plastic cover, now in the tube placed 5 cm from the pin hole in the ground acts as a shield to project light through the small hole in the metal base for the production of an articleImage below.

In addition, some wrapping paper or silver foil wrapped around the pipe to make it look neat and tidy and to block any light through the gaps.

Now you can with the new science Toy [http://www.sciencetoy.co.uk/shop/catalog/browse?sessid =] with the pinhole for a nice bright image as a tree on a sunny day, and when is the open end should look to see an inverted image projected on the plastic cover.

Why do you think the image is projected on the head? IfThe light in a straight line, light will travel from the bottom of an object through the pinhole at the end against the top of the screen, while the light was from the tip of an object passing through the hole and end at the bottom of the screen .

Playing with educational toys helps children to understand the scientific principles, however, to make educational toys permit further operation of educational toys, as well as a lot of fun.

Ride on Toys For Kids

What is the next step for a child after learning to walk? Running? Perhaps, but the need for going faster and faster is one of the things most kids live for. One of the ways us parents meet that demand is by purchasing a battery powered ride on toy for their young one. Kids love ride on toys, they love the freedom it gives them, it also makes them feel grown up by giving them the feeling of driving the real thing whether it's a Jeep, Escalade, or 4-Wheeler.

Today's kid's ride on toys has come a long way from the first generation of PowerWheels. The ones you find on the shelves today have many features kids could only dream of before. Working tailgates, adjustable seats, and sound effects are some of the more popular features and some models have a real working FM radio included in the toy and some have simulated navigation screens, how cool is that! Your kid can feel like he is driving daddy's or mommy's car. Just like in real cars you can never have too many cup holders so they also include a cup holder in some models. The advancements are not only skin deep. The battery system have been overhauled to provide more power and a longer running time and even includes a battery charge indicator so you can see how much power is left in the battery with the touch of a button. Charging times have been drastically reduced as well so you have less down time than ever before.

Something that my parents probably wished was on mine is the Power Lock Brake System. This new feature 'locks out' beginner riders from going to the high-speed gearing making it impossible for them to going too fast. This great safety feature gives some much needed reassurance to the parents so their kid can engage the high speeds when they are ready.

PowerWheels has really strived to meet the tough satisfaction of parents all over the country. With the new generation of kids ride on toys on the shelves today, I am sure you will be hard pressed to find anything wrong with them. With the new styles, gadgets, features, and radios the kids get more enjoyment out of them too.

Imagine your child's face when they ride on one of these toys. You better have your camera or camcorder ready because this toy is one that creates a lifetime of memories. Just like me talking about my childhood adventures on my PowerWheels Jeep; your kid can be talking about their adventures 20 years from now.

Make Some Noise With Them Toys

The toy companies are just getting bigger and bigger. You cannot blame them kids demands are increasing as well. They want more variety and the toy companies are ready to give the kids what they are looking for. Kids can be quite demanding and if they want something then they should be given to them especially if it concerning toys as it makes them very happy and gives them immense happiness. The toys these days are so advance where the technology is concerned. You can make the toys make different sounds and it sounds very perfect ad this makes the kids very happy. They like different sounds and expressions on toys.

The toys are expensive these days but there are also the less expensive ones which are really good as well. I always wanted the cars and bikes and truck toys when I was a kid. They really were a lot of fun to play with. I use to make them dash each other and race and other such activities. There are castles that are available where you could put your toys like you can put the Barbie dolls and other such figures and pay with them. A number of children enjoy these kinds of activities. It is a very essential part of their life and they are going to remember it for the rest of their lives.

There are radio controlled toys these days which are very interesting and a lot of fun to operate. There are cars that you can control by the remote. You can make them move forward and backward and to your right and left and try stunts like drifting on them and it does really work and is a lot of fun. Children these days meet up with their cars and have racing competitions and it makes them very happy and entertained. The remote controlled cars are not expensive depending on which model of car you are buying.

These days there are also the remote control boats which are very entertaining. You could have the same fun on the boats as well. They are more fun as it is in the water and it looks beautiful on how the boats turn and twist. Racing with the remote control boats should be done a little carefully as sometimes the boats could collide and dash each other which is not very nice as some times the boats could also break and they are also expensive.

Ideal Toys For Kids Make Kids Smarter

In this advanced world of science and technology, everyone wants their child to be on the top. This is quite natural from a parent's point of view, but parents should always consider their child's caliber and their capabilities. It is not that if you insist and force your child he will get to the top, but it is the inspiration and motivation that might take him to the top or at least make him successful. Today, even the toy making industry is giving importance to teaching kids while they play and have fun. Children learn very fast when they are having fun and not forced to sit and study. This type of learning also lasts for a lifetime. Things learned at a tender age remain throughout one's life.

You will have to keep in mind, first of all, the age of your child so that you buy a perfect toy according to his age. There are varieties of toys available in the market and you have to choose the one that is ideal for your child considering his age and interests. It is better to take your child along and let him choose one so that he selects the best for him -- or if he tries it there you will come to know whether he is going to play with it or not. Don't get carried away with the price of the toy, because it is not necessarily true that if the toy is costly it will be good for your child. The purpose of the toy is that your child is happy, and that is the thing that matters after all.

There is no fixed formula for ideal toys, because a toy that can be ideal for your child may not be so for the other, because every child is different. Their interests, capabilities -- everything is different. Even at the age of two, children will have different interests. But, there are some points that can be considered common for every child, and when finally buying, you can select the one that best suits your child's needs and interests. If you are going to buy toys for your kid who is small, then the first thing that you should consider is the safety of your child. The toy should be soft and comfortable to play with so that your child doesn't get hurt while playing.

Usually educational toys are considered ideal for kids of any age. These toys help develop the skills of your child and make him smart in comparison to other children of the same age group. Also the experts are of the opinion that if the interest of the child is diverted towards science and technology at an early age, it is for the benefit of a lifetime. If your child has interest in science, so well so good, but if you want to instill in him more interest in science and technology, you can buy him science toys.

A Simple and Organized Life - Lessons From a Kindergarten Classroom

Have you been in a kindergarten class lately? It is amazing how much energy and joy these little tykes have! If a room of 12-15 busy five year olds can have a simple and sustainable order, we can learn a few lessons there. Follow along with me as we observe the actions during a typical kindergarten day.

Take off your coat. A cubby at the entrance to class is the place to store coat, hat, boots, umbrellas... anything that might encumber a kindergartner's learning and play.

Lesson: Set aside the hard things that you can do nothing about right now. Clear your mind for a more productive day. Give yourself the freedom to concentrate on the people/tasks that are in front of you.

Do one thing at a time. The kindergarten room is set up with activity zones: reading nook, painting corner, building block central, cars and trucks, the kitchen, etc. Children are encouraged to choose ONE activity at a time. Carrying paint to the reading nook would be a disaster!

Lesson: Focus on the one thing you are doing. Be in the moment. Think of what you can be grateful for in the activity that is at hand and do your best in your NOW.

Put toys away. Special activity zones are planned with storage that makes it fun and easy to put toys back where they belong. Puzzle racks, low shelves for blocks, bins for cars make it easy to keep like toys together.

Lesson: Gather and store supplies within arm's reach in the area where used for a specific purpose (writing letters, doing laundry.) Always put supplies away before moving to another area for another task.

Share with others. Do not fight over the best toys and take turns serving snack.

Lesson: Share joys and windfalls. Share chores and heavy hearts. Don't go it alone. The person who thinks he or she is indispensable is either deluded or arrogant.

Be kind. Do not hit Johnnie over the head. No name calling.

Lesson: Always speak the truth, but say it with love in a way that your words can be received. Do not say everything you think; you just might be wrong sometime.

Be kind to yourself first. You are of no use to others if you allow yourself to get run down. Take time to be refreshed. For some that means alone time. Others want to party with friends to regain energy.

Strange, is it not, how much of life is elemental? We can learn a lot from children about keeping life simple and having fun right now. The balance lies in maintaining a child-like joy while maturing in our relationships with others.

Wooden Toys - Safe and Educational Gifts For Children

I have a love-hate relationship with shopping for gifts for all the children in my life. I love giving the children presents, but I hate shopping. So when I find a line of excellent toys I'm very excited. That's how I feel about handcrafted wooden toys.

Educational, safe, fun, and durable

My standards for toys are extremely high. When I give a toy to the children I love, the toy must be educational, fun, safe, and durable. Plus, I won't give anything that has lots of small parts or needs batteries. I won't buy any painted toy unless it specifically says that it is lead-free and non-toxic. That's why I'm so pleased with the natural wood toys I found online.

Encourage imaginative play

The best wooden toys for children have a simple design to encourage children to use their own imaginations. They are sturdy enough to withstand years of active play without falling apart. They can be passed on to younger children, which is not only economical but also teaches children about reusing and recycling. Toys that are handmade are especially desirable, because they support craftspeople and help children understand the value of quality. Wood from sustainably harvested forests is preferable to wood from tropical forests.

Choices for every age

A good retailer of wooden toys has a wide assortment of products to choose from. With such variety it's easy to choose the perfect gift for any age and any preference. It is true that from an early age many children show preferences for certain types of toys. Retailers with vehicles, dollhouses, animals, and puzzles have options for children of all ages and interests.

Push and pull toys are ideal for children from one to three years old. Tool kits and trucks appeal to slightly older children. Wooden building block sets provide hours of fun and imaginative play for all ages. Games and puzzles are great for anyone over five, even adults.

Personalized name board puzzles, coat racks, name train sets, and stools make perfect birthday gifts. Painted (non-toxic paints only) or in natural wood, they show that the gift-giver cared enough to order a special gift. Farm animals and miniature cars are classic gifts that survive well beyond the latest toy crazes.

Tool kits and kitchen sets are not only fun, they encourage children to practice their fine motor skills. Job-related toys educate children about the work adults do and start their thinking about work they might want to do. Wooden toys are not gender specific. Boys and girls of all ages enjoy playing with doll furniture, animals, kitchen sets, tools, vehicles, and occupational toys.

Learning by doing

Children learn by doing and playing, not just by watching and listening. Wooden toys stimulate their imagination and provide hours of safe and enjoyable play by themselves or with other children. The fine craftsmanship of wood toys teaches children about the value of quality and durability-a healthy alternative to the ever-present disposable consumer items. All in all, wooden toys are excellent products. I am delighted to give them to the children in my life.

Toy Gift Exchange Ideas Under $20

It seems like there's always a last minute gift exchange popping up just when you think you're all done with your Christmas shopping. It can be difficult to purchase a gift for a child you don't even know, or even more difficult when you don't even know what child will be receiving the gift.

What toys make the best gift for a child's gift exchange? Since most gift exchanges are under $20, I'm focusing on gifts that fall into that price range. You can also use these general ideas to find even lower dollar gifts if you're looking for gift ideas in the $10, or $5 price range.

Top kid's gift for an exchange~ Pick out a fun board or hand held game. Games are always in style, you can't go wrong with a board game or even a small electronic game.

Gift idea for a toy exchange number 2~ Something that lets kids use their imagination or explore their creativity. Most kids love to work on crafts, or draw and create. There are several really cool art and creative kits out there these days. Some of my favorites are by Crayola, and most of them are under $20.

Girl's gift for an exchange~ If you're looking for a gift idea for a girl, dolls or plush are a good choice. Doll accessories like doll carriers or furniture are also popular choices for young girls.

Boy's toy gift idea~ Most boys love anything with wheels. Tech Deck is very popular with the boys right now. You can't go wrong with the mini skateboards themselves, or one of the accessories to go with them.

Embroidered Toys

There are multiple patterns for cross stitched toys and downloadable patterns and designs are available on the internet nearly everywhere one looks.

Welcoming a newborn home from the hospital with a toy monogrammed with his or her initials would make a lovely personalized gift as well as being safe for the newborn.

A birthday boy would be entranced with his birthday details embroidered on his own more adult version of this toy idea and a hand made teddy bear would not be completed with out having the eyes and bow tie made of an embroidered design.

A simple gift for your child's kindergarten class at Easter or Christmas might be to make up enough simply sewn teddy bears or rabbits and using your embroidery skills and a free embroidery pattern from the internet, which are easily found, to embroider the features and give one to each child from the class. These could be made more special if you have your child help you to add the stuffing to the embroidered animal This would also be an extra special gift from your child when the school year is over.

Not only do inclusions on our crafts come off during play, but also when laundering or cleaning, rendering the toys somewhat less attractive and less likely to be used.
When we use embroidery designs to build the attention getting parts of the toy, such as shoes, clothing or eyes, nose and mouth, the result is both a safer toy and one that is far more durable than plastic additions which can catch and pull off or loosen in time.

How many of us have heard the small child complain that his bear has no hands, or his nose is missing, when one of the plastic items has pulled off or been lost to the washing machine?
Most of us have effected a repair to that well loved animal using embroidery designs to accomplish it.. Why not do that to begin with, so that the missing facial features never enters into play.

Embroidery is one of the safest methods of making toys for infants and very small children.
Using such items as buttons and plastic eyes can mean an injury that is easily avoided if we avoid using those types of inclusions in our crafting.
An item which features embroidery designs or patterns for the clothing and features will be both safe and attractive.

To embroider the eyes or mouth of a toy means to assure that there are no small parts which will come off to do injury to an infant.
Simple patterns are available which will help you to make your features in crewel embroidery patterns as well as cross stitch design patterns or several other methods, so that you may use whichever method you feel most comfortable with to assure the quality of your item.
Downloadable facial features embroidery designs are free on many web sites internet wide, having personally used some I've found them to be easy to accomplish and they make toys that the little ones love for years to come.

A sure way to make quality items from your embroidered designs is to assure they are able to withstand the rigors of childhood by using tightly woven machine washable fabrics and threads, which will stand up to the test of time and play.

Preparing Your Child For Junior Kindergarten

Junior Kindergarten is such a wonderful time. Your little one if off to school to start learning and getting into the routine of classroom schedules, paying attention to the teacher and enjoying fun filled educational activities.

I have had many parents say to me though, that when they brought their child to orientation to meet the teacher, the teacher had a huge list of learning goals for each child to see if they could accomplish them. Some parents said to me "I didn't even know my child had to know that yet."
Parents have been asking, shouldn't my child be learning the basics in JK? Isn't that why they are going to school, to learn?

The fact is, is that children all learn and develop at different times and at different levels. But, just because your child may not be up to what some teacher's expectations are, doesn't mean that your child will be behind for their entire educational experience. Some children who may be "excelling" now may come to a stand still while other children who are "behind" catch up and possibly surpass other children's learning abilities.

If you want your child to be prepared for school here are some tips that you can follow to help you out.

First of all you can try to find out what will be taught in your child's grade/level before school begins and find out what the basics are. Once you find out the basics, if it is simple enough for you to do so, you can work on them at home with your child, nothing more, nothing less. It will be kind of like a head start introduction. Your child will feel comfortable when starting school because he/she will know the basics and will be familiar with the materials that the teacher will be teaching the class.

You can find out such information by talking to other parents who have had children in the same class/level. Call the school and speak to someone who teaches that class/level or who is familiar with it. You can also do an online search and see if you can find any information that way as well.

What about JK? That is a big one because this is the level where children are just introduced to an actual school setting for the first time.

Some tips on basics that your child should be familiar with are as follows:

Basic Colors (red, blue, green, yellow, orange) (Optional: Black and White)

Basic Shapes (square, circle, triangle, rectangle.) (Optional: Oval)

Counting 1-10 or 1-15

Writing down numbers:

By writing down numbers I don't mean have your child learn to spell every number. I mean just get them drawing out the actual number like 1, 2, 3, 4, .....up to at least 10.

A helpful hint would be to have numbers posted throughout any room your child spends the most time in. You can get a numbered poster as well and hang it up. Within time when your child is ready you will see them trying to write down numbers. Tracing is also a great way to help your child as they begin to write things down on paper.

Alphabet (they should be able to at least sing the song and be familiar with the letters in their name.) (Optional: It's a great idea to get an alphabet poster that they can look at and you can point to each letter as you sing the alphabet.)

Writing their name:

This one can be a little bit tricky, but once you introduce them to the alphabet, they will soon be trying to draw the letters that they see, naturally. Once they show an interest in this, it's a great idea to try and get them to trace letters and then eventually move up to writing their name.

This won't happen over night so patience is needed. If you are consistent at it and make it enjoyable and fun, and let them go at their own pace, learning to draw letters should be a fun learning experience for both you and your child.

Age appropriate books with colors, numbers, shapes, and letters are also a great way to introduce these learning areas. Your child can look through them at their own leisure.

With these few tips and hints your child should be able to learn all these basics in no time. Just remember there is no rush. You can't make your child learn something they are not ready to. Just be patient, make all materials available and before you know it your child will be asking you questions and you will be on your way to a wonderful learning experience.

Have fun with your children, you might learn some things through them. *If you are looking to teach them the basics fast, and give your child an educational edge: Preschool Genius Learning can help: http://www.preschoollearningonline.com/preschool_shapesmath_counting.html

Almost every boy has had a phase in which he was enthralled by every piece of vehicle and machinery that he came across. When a kid would see airplanes, trucks and heavy equipment, the parents would surely be bombarded with questions about it, be hounded about going somewhere to see it again, and finally be demanded to buy one like it for them to play with. I believe almost every parent has experienced this at least once in their lives.

During this phase in their lives, toy airplanes, toy trucks and miniature replicas of heavy equipment that caught his attention would be the best gifts to give them. Parents would attest to the big happy smiles they would see on their sons' faces when they opened up that gift and saw the toys that they spent hours after hours daydreaming about.

If you plan on buying your kid one of these toys, why not make the most of it? Why not get the latest product that offers a lot of features that your kid can enjoy? Yes he will surely be thankful for that toy garbage truck that he can push across the living room floor. But your son will be more grateful if he can also interact with the toy and do so many other things with it other than pushing it around a room.

With Stinky The Garbage Truck, this can be possible. Matchbox has created interactive toys that are for open-ended playing. Every kid can enjoy this toy with hours of playing and it will surely maximize their time with their favorite toys. The new Matchbox Trucks can talk and light up. They would tell jokes and ask questions. Kids can even see the toys doing the things that the real things do in real life.

This latest craze started with Rocky the Robot Truck which came out in 2009. With these Matchbox Trucks, every kid's playtime will never be the same.

Stinky The Garbage Truck is the latest addition to these types of interactive toys from Matchbox. It's part of the Real Talking Rigs, which are a set of interactive working trucks.

It's nothing like the usual Garbage Truck Toys that you normally see. Stinky can load and unload garbage, he can interact with the kid by telling jokes, and he can engage in sing-a-longs. It has more than 80 phrases so you can be sure that your kid won't grow tired listening to the same thing over and over again. Every kid will surely wait for what Stinky will say next.

The interactive toy is powered by 4 C batteries. What's cool about it is when the batteries run out and it's time for a recharge, Stinky will snore then will quiet down.

It's truly nothing like any other Garbage Truck Toys. With Stinky The Garbage Truck your child will have the best experience and no doubt it will be there new best friend in no time.

Preschool Is an Important Step to Kindergarten

Before your child goes to kindergarten, you may or may not decide to enroll them in preschool. If you are unsure, there are many good reasons to have your child attend preschool in preparation for the next step in their education. Your child is in a stage of life where their brains are rapidly developing, as they build their self-confidence, social skills, and rudimentary knowledge that prepares them for kindergarten. They are taking the world in like a sponge, which is why it is so important that they are exposed to as many educational opportunities as possible.

According to the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER), in 2005 more than two-thirds of four-year-olds and more than 40 percent of three-year-olds were enrolled in preschool. Those parents who enrolled their children in preschool put them on a fast-track to learning.

There are many reasons for parents to enroll their children in preschool. Besides the fact that they begin to develop rudimentary learning skills by being exposed to numbers, letters, and shapes, they also get a head start on socializing skills as compared to their peers who do not attend preschool.

"Kids in preschool discover that they are capable and can do things for themselves -- from small tasks like pouring their own juice and helping set snack tables to tackling bigger issues like making decisions about how to spend their free time," says Angela Capone, PhD, senior program manager at Southwest Human Development's Arizona Institute for Childhood Development, in Phoenix.

Preschools in Vancouver, WA will prepare your child for kindergarten by teaching them how to be students. While other kids will just start their learning in kindergarten, a child who has attended preschool before attending kindergarten will already have experience as a student, which means they will know to raise their hands, respect others, and take turns.

Preschoolers come out of their time spent there with richer vocabularies, improved problem-solving skills, and a better likelihood to not only succeed later in life, but avoid major downfalls. Studies have shown that kids who attend preschool are:

- More likely to graduate from high school and go to college
- More capable of earning a higher income
- Less likely to be arrested or to be involved in a crime in the first place

While your child will learn so much in preschool, it is no so much about structure or rigid academic goals, as it is a way to explore their interests and above all else... have fun! Vancoucer, WA preschools are equipped to give your child the edge and head start they need in life. Just ask a parent who has seen their child blossom while attending one.

Celebrating a Graduation

There are many wonderful milestones in our lives, but a graduation is one of the most important of all. Any graduation can be an emotional and important moment, whether it's a kindergarten, high school or college graduation, it's a good time to celebrate and enjoy such important time in one's life.

Graduating marks an important achievement, therefore it's important to celebrate it in style. If a friend, relative or family member has an upcoming graduation, it's important to shop for the perfect graduation gift. There are many different types of gifts available, and the type of gift you choose will be determined by the type of graduation, the graduates age, gender and style.

Some of the most common graduation gifts are engraved gifts, gift certificates, and of course cash. Many people are reluctant to give cash as a gift for graduation, but in reality, many high school and college graduates will appreciate the extra help to get started in life. If you are unsure of giving cash as a graduation present, a good alternative may be giving a gift card for a bookstore or for something the graduate likes the most. For you to be sure they will enjoy the gift, you can also buy a pre paid credit card which they could use anywhere.

Graduation parties are one of the most honored traditions in the world. A great way to mark such an achievement can be done by bringing family members and friends together. Family members can celebrate their grad's accomplishment by offering them an unforgettable party.

Without any doubts, graduating from high school, college or university is a significant achievement. It's important to let the new graduate kick back for a while and bask in the glory of a job well done. Organizing a graduation party for one's son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter is a great way to show how much you care and how much you appreciate all the hard work and struggle they had to go through.

Educational Toys for Your Kids

Toys for Preschoolers, Kids Learning Toys or Toys to expand your kids imagination, Preschool Learning Online.com has what you and your children need.

Today toys do everything from talk, sing, move, light up, dance etc. Then we have television programs, cartoons and shows which can distract your children for hours at a time. What about video games?
Video games geared to children or young kids maybe fine for short periods of time, but they can be a big waste of time when it comes to your children expanding their minds and learning to develop their creativity.

Think about it...within the last couple of years video games have really taken off and cater to the majority of younger kids and children. This is a huge change from 5-10 years ago. Ten years ago, the video game industry was not the 'GIANT' that it is now. More kids were outside playing hide and go seek, playing sports, running around, skipping with friends, playing in the backyard etc.
Now...we have an extreme rise in childhood obesity, lethargic un ambitious children with less energy, no drive, and very little imagination.

AHhhhhhhhh... IMAGINATION! Isn't that what childhood is about? Imaginary friends, drawing, coloring, playing hide and seek, playing with dolls, playing with blocks etc. So these all seem like simple things, and you are right!
These are all the simple things that help or helped children over the years use their imagination and creativity to keep themselves amused.

I mean where would Walt Disney be today without IMAGINATION??
So as parents and care givers today I believe it is important to let your kids experience some of todays entertainment, yet limit it greatly and help them to find useful, simple Fun methods of expanding their minds and developing their imaginations.

Top Toys of 2008 For Kids

Every parent knows that there are many different kinds of kids toys, and the top toys of 2008 are no exception. In fact, this year's best toys contain several classic product types, as well as newer and more innovative toys and games. The only true way to get an accurate sense of the top toys of 2008 is to examine a few exemplary examples of entertainment for all kids of all ages, including the young at heart.

Many people consider the overall top toy of 2008 to be the Air Hogs Havoc Heli Laser Battle, which is actually a two player set of remote controlled helicopters that make authentic battle noises. One reason this is considered to be one of the year's best toys is that fact that it has such a wide customer appeal. Though rated for children over three, even parents find it hard to resist and have reported that it is so easy that even a two year old can do it. All of the top toys of 2008 are parent as well as kid approved, but the helicopter stands out for the simple reason that it appeals equally to boys as girls, small children, or even adults.

Another top toy of the year is worth nothing because of its innovative yet classical concept. The Smart Cycle: Physical Learning Arcade uses technological advancements in video and game interaction to teach kids basic educational lessons, while also improving hand eye coordination. As popular among boys as girls, it is easy to see why it is one of the top toys of 2008. Toys for generations have been geared to practicing skill sets such as the ABC's and numbers, and the physical learning lab distinguishes itself as one of the best kids toys by instilling timeless lessons in a new, interesting, and effective way.

There are also a lot of variations of traditional games and products among the top toys of 2008 too. Just about every little girl likes cute pets and dolls, so it should come as no surprise that this year's most popular girls toy is a tie between the Littlest Pet Shop: Display and Play Round and Round Pet Town and the Troop Groovy Girls, modeled after the Girl Scouts of America. Girls' toys, however, are not the only variation of a classical theme. This year's top outdoor toy is the Ripstik, a caster board that allows kids to experience the fun of skateboarding in a safer way that also increases motor control and coordination. Appealing equally to both boys and girls while promoting regular exercise and physical activity, it is no wonder that this product made an appearance among the top toys of 2008.

The fact is toys change from year to year, but a lot remains the same. While technology has a big influence in evolving the world of toys for kids, many electronics and other modern toys still fit into a classical theme that has been entertaining kids for centuries, such as outdoor games, educational products, and even those like dolls and action figures that we associate with one particular gender.

My Kindergarten Experience As a Father

Okay everyone up and atom, I am going to cook breakfast and drop mommy off at work and then my daughter. Its oh dark thirsty in the morning and not only do I have to cook breakfast but I have to drop my wife and daughter off, in their respective institutions of work and school.

That is not all, I have a three year young son to take care of as well. I signed up for this position and I plan on accomplishing my mission, which is to lead and manage my family to success and the best quality of life I can give them.

We can mutually agree, it has been quite a few years since attending kindergarten. Actually it has been a long time since I attended kindergarten and I am not about to tell you how ago it was for me.

My wife and I enrolled our daughter in kindergarten last year and looked forward to her attending, learning and making new friends. On the first day of school after learning which teacher my daughter was assigned to, when it was time to leave her at school and depart, our daughter stood up to leave with us, thus began the journey of being a father of a 21st Century kindergarten student.

The fact of the matter is, I had a lot to learn about the school system, leadership at my daughters school, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and of course the teachers. Little did I know, i would become a member of the PTA with a leadership role, but there I was in my element, contributing.

Sadly I was only one of a very few parents volunteering my time and efforts to help improve my daughters school. There are 400 students that attend my daughters elementary school ad less than 10 parents willing to join and or serve on the PTA.

Being a member of the PTA helped me learn the nuisances of the workings of my daughters school and it benefited us immeasurably. I drop my daughter off at school and pick here up everyday. I visit with my daughters teacher, speak with the principal of the school, meet with her entire class for her birthday party and participate in some of their field trips.

One of the most astounding phenomenons to learn was, all of the students in my daughters class do not call me Mr. Vann, rather they call me my daughters dad. When I attended school we addressed adults as sir and or ma'am, today students address parents by the name of their children.

I have more years ahead of me as it pertains to being called my childrens dad. My kindergarten experience as a father has been nothing short of an incredible experience, my daughter is learning a lot and having fun. My wife and I is proud of our daughter and I look forward to many more years on this journey.

Online learning games for preschoolers - First Vs Banquet

Parents Internet has accumulated a vast collection of educational games for preschoolers and kindergarten children, many are freely available, that they are interested. We saw a lot of these games to find out how the quality of fun online educational games.

There are a variety of Web sites with games on-line learning for different learning areas, such as early math, analysis, language, etc. However, there is a big disadvantagesuch as online games. This is in view of the organization of these games. We found that most of these games online learning rather disorganized. This is what we call the pattern "Buffet". It 's like a buffet to eat anything you want. It may be, in the sense that what you want to eat can be beautiful - you can even start and end with dessert entrance. But to get on each course you must go for the food and serve themselves. If you want your children to a buffet, it isserve not only themselves but also serve your children, that makes you work twice.

In connection with the education of children online, the model "buffet" requires a lot of planning and hard work by parents. The buffet model, the navigation from one game to another very difficult for parents and almost impossible for the child himself. In view of such content, you can easily conclude that parents spend a lot of time to organize andThis content and educational games for their children, so that children would be out of something useful of it. This means that parents, the child will sit on a daily basis and in a lot of a priori task on their side.

The other side of the equation is that the model "banquet" where it is as if you can call it a feast. Are you with a full 7-course meal that you just sit back and enjoy serving. It's more of a dinner finest. Sure, you probably will not be ablewith dessert and end with the starters start here.

Why play is important for children?

Children love to play, have to run, hunt, ride, ride and jump. The more you play, you want to play again.

The game is important for children because of their language, cognitive and social skills, practices and contributes to their overall development of personality. Children use their thoughts during the game because they think and act as if they were a different person. If they make such a transformation, are a step in the abstract thinking thatare free to express their thoughts on the concentration of specific objects. Gambling is also associated with creativity, especially the ability, less literal and more flexible in thought.

Vygotsky, was a famous Russian psychologist who wrote: "In the game, a child always has its average age, above his daily behavior that is in play as if it were a head taller than him."

There are four types of games, the increasing social interaction for children and reflectRefinement.

solitaire game is a game played by themselves, often with toys, and is independent of what other children do.

Includes children play parallel the influence they exert the same game or an activity together, but with very little interaction or together.

associative play is like playing in parallel, but with more interaction in terms of sharing, shift and general interest in what othersdoes.

Cooperative play occurs when children work together and unite to achieve a common goal, such as building a big castle with each child to build a part of the structure.

Play life has become even essential for children, but to motivate the children play games and learn to have responsibility for adult education, the right way to play games and to select age-appropriate for children. Important elements to support the developmentChildren's Playground.

Alternatives to kindergarten - Five proposals for the construction of social skills

The nursery is always closer to my daughter and I'm always answering questions that attend preschool. The answer is no, and most parents are just asking, but some have the need for a solid dialogue with me as a preschool felt helps with socialization skills. I am not opposed to the pre-school age, I prefer to continue to teach my daughter to nursery school to begin the adventure home to.

I agree that the provision of preschool childrenChildren the opportunity to many abilities, some of which are very important in developing social skills. However, this talk had me thinking of other non-school opportunities for socialization, will be available in your community. As social skills best taught using real life situations, I have listed some alternatives for kindergarten, which are to develop or improve your child's social skills:

1. Gymnastics / Tumble class. These lessons are structured to teach childrento work as a team, sitting quietly in a circle and watch, waiting their turn to learn new physical skills, follow the instructions to make offers on others and to exercise that our children need. Not only does the child develop social skills within their age group, but their self-esteem grows week after week, as something to master the techniques of gymnastics and tumbling complicated. Make sure the car is a class so patient, encouraging and enthusiastic when working withThe children and the child will grow into a confident human social, in a short time.

2. Gymboree Play and Music courses. Yes, the clothing store. The company operates an Early Childhood Education Division, Gymboree centers in the United States. The programs include classes such as music and art, and centers offer a two-hour class designed specifically for the skills of school 3-5 years. The center offers a free class for each course is offered, parents can preview a classbefore making a monthly plan. Parents are invited to stand by and watch or leave their child in class from their own experience.

3. Discovery Center. If these centers are available in your area, use them if you can. Discovery Center can offer 2 hours of lessons a week camps for children of preschool age. Children learn to be offered on science, practical experience, like working with clay, learning, texture, art, music, etc. ready for somebearings is necessary to leave the baby with the teacher, but remember that this exercise is to help your child develop social skills.

4. Art Museums. Many museums offer Story Time, camps, children's club and kid's camps, where the real fun begins. Children have a hands-on experience with other children their age in art, craft, plaster, texture, etc. You learn to follow instructions, alternately and together they produced art. Make sure you stand back and let your childLearn to respond to the teachers and his path to an unknown group of children.

5. Your local zoo. Check your local zoo for the classes of related children. Some zoos have a baby yoga classes, art classes and child classes with art and crafts, story time, and the opportunity to touch and learn about animals in the zoo to select. Child classes taught mostly children seated in a circle, not to learn, raise their hands to participate and to listen and follow instructionsauthorized project.

Whether you select a pre-school at home or keep the baby until it's time for kindergarten, there are options for teaching them important social skills. Do your research and look for opportunities that expose them as much as possible. Yes, sometimes that means standing back and let them know their own way, but every small step that will make a great leap to conscious beings we all want, our childrenbe.

Preschool graduation ceremonies - the themes and ideas

The Montessori system of education requires that students be treated as individuals for the start of their education until the end of their formal education. It is recognized that to have any own needs and desires and barriers to achieving everything you want to get what they do. This article is specific to the Montessori system of education pre-K look with a specific question, how can the pre-graduation ceremony will be used to celebrate the individuality ofStudent.

First, you must ask your child what they want their graduation ceremony for preschool children. Of course they want their friends have them and can also invite some family members to celebrate with the group. At the same school, there will be others who graduated pre-school children and may be so that the child wants to join them or go to their parties after the closing ceremony. Ask a child what they want for graduationCeremony is a great way to involve them and they feel that their graduation ceremony. Since the Montessori system accepts that the individuality should be respected, it is for the community to ensure that the graduation ceremony is as individual as possible in the given circumstances.

The family will have a role in relation to their culture and beliefs play in the preschool graduation ceremony. The goal of parents is to make the best possibleOpportunities start in life and on the belief that they hold based systems. It is also sometimes instinctively that graduates looking for their parents, their outlook on life 's event are. This is a normal family life and should not be surprising to the organizers that parents can, for example, that a party with a religious theme. Some families who want to come to an ethnic minority to have a theme that hackers back to their traditions in their homeland.

In particularThe promotion is about joy and celebration. The themes and ideas that will be used for graduation, they need to consider at every stage. It is not good for a party system with military precision, but the people who are not entitled to the party itself is the primary duty to amuse the people themselves. It 'also important to remember that we have babies and preschool children who speak a bit' limited opportunities for adults, including CentralArguments. The pre-school graduation ceremony should be about children and issues involving children.

There are many ideas on how to use themes for preschool graduation ceremonies in the Montessori system. I could look at the themes of pirates, but which offend the sensibilities of some parents. I also considered the question of snakes and ladders. Then, for the religious-minded parents, you can create a biblical story. For those who love the exotic, you might have aSafari tropical nature of the problem. These are just ideas that can be developed according to the tastes and preferences of parents and children at the time.

Home School Lesson Plans Made Easy - The Secrets of Learning - Focus your attention

Two secret: Focus on the Ideal

You can get more of what you focus.

For all classes of kindergarten was one, it is clear that what we focus on strengthening. If you tell someone to stop working, you'll be repeated over and over again. If you tell a child a toy to stay away from other children who are immediately attracted to them. If you stop to talk to ask a girl, you say that about most of the girls and boys. Whatever youNote, you will see it again and again. Although this is obviously in a nursery, it exists everywhere, we are not aware of May.

Focus on the positive.

If you sit quietly and watch a student say something about how to start to spell the other students to find their seats. If you stop at a lanky student, please make a comment on another student sits on the right. If you stop daydreaming your class, commentStudent who is the faithful reading. Change your attention from the stressful, negative things, the ideal, the positive things. It takes commitment, but it's worth it. Even teachers of young people are taught to swim three positive comments before giving a little 'constructive criticism. Not only will you see a change in behavior, but will also improve the reputation and morale of the class.

Be specific with your feedback.

As is sometimes the most positive, but be surespecific with your comments. How to say "good job" or "excellent work" can be applied to all students in each class and may not be at home with your student ID card. You can see the clear line in the design of an art student. You can comment on how well a student uses prepositional phrases and conjunctions in a story about an evergreen forest. You can take that a player makes a pitch ball with the other foot when throwing. This is the kind of specific feedback that will really helpStudent. Knowing exactly what to do to maintain a pupil will be encouraged. Knowing exactly how to fix something, or will improve a student can to help. To be positive and real is a sign of a great master.
