Bakugan - The Hot, New Game Coming to a Galaxy Near You

What do you call a world out of balance where a galaxy called Vestroia, inhabited by miniature warriors begins to merge with the human world, upsetting the natural balance of both?

What do you call a Japanese TV anime program that debuted on TV Tokyo in '07 with over fifty episodes and within a year, exploded in popularity in both Canadian and US markets?

Further, What do you call a board game that ties this galactic world and the anime program together into a phenomena resulting in hosted tournaments by Toys "R" Us in both summers since the program was released?

If you're a young, trend-setting game enthusiast, then you already know to call this the world of 'Bakugan Battle Brawlers.'

Since the anime series debuted, the Bakugan game has taken on a life of its own. The series, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, and the game were developed and released in conjunction by Sega Toys and Spin Master. The game uses metal cards and magnetic spring-loaded miniature figures, called Bakugan--small creatures set into conflict by the battle brawlers who wield them.

The story is about Dan Kuso and his five friends (Runo, Marucho, Shun, Alice, and Julie) who, one day, witness random cards falling out of the sky. From this surreal event, they created a card game called Bakugan. The group collectively call themselves Battle Brawlers having the aim to restore balance between the galaxy of Vestroia and the human world with which it had begun to merge. The creatures of Vestroia are known as Bakugan, and an evil Bakugan, Naga, has upset the natural balance by stealing the silent core. Accompanied by a human named Michael, Naga seeks the infinity core, further disrupting the balance between both worlds. Now the Battle Brawlers find themselves in constant battle for the fate of Vestroia against such foes as Masquerade, Hal-G, and the Bakugan Naga.

Taking on the role of a Bakugan Battle Brawler, each player uses selected "Bakugan warriors" -- fearsome creatures like Juggernoids, Fear rippers, and "Robatallians -- to earn points against their opponents by rolling them into battle. The Bakugan warriors take the shape of magnetic marbles which instantly pop open into Bakugan warrior action figures when rolled onto metal Gate Cards. Players use a bit of creativity and a whole lot of strategy to place their Gate Cards, each one affecting the battle in different ways.

To play Bakugan, players typically set up the game on a board called the Bakugan battle arena and use Bakugan warriors (magnetic marbles), cards, and accessories of their choice) to begin the game.

How to Build a K'nex Gun

K'nex is no longer just a children's toy. Recently, K'nex guns have become incredibly popular on many K'nex websites. Now you can learn the basics to building your own.

Remember those rubber band slingshots you used to play with as a kid? Well no more. While some kids were still building roller coasters, some kids realized they could be building K'nex guns that shoot over 200 feet. Here are the basics to building your own gun.

Overview
These toy guns function much the same as slingshots, only they have a barrel and trigger to allow for better accuracy and controlled shots. Here are the basic components to building your own.

Barrel
This is the basic component of all K'nex guns. Unlike slingshots, whose accuracy depends wholly on the user, the barrel increases accuracy. This can easily be built by attaching a row of connectors to a rod.

Rubber Band
Put a round in the barrel you've just made and then wrap a rubber band around the back of the barrel so that it covers the circular hole. All you have to do is pull it back and release to fire.

Trigger
Holding rounds in place is old when you can build a trigger for your gun! Just attach a connector via the circular hole to the barrel rod and clip more connectors around it. Pull the round back and let the pressure of the bullet push the trigger in place. When you want to fire, push the trigger aside.

Detailing
Now that you know the basics to building a K'nex gun, all you have to do is add magazines and more features so that you'll have coolest model on the block!

Juvenile Bedding And Room Decor

A child's room is a key aspect of the start of his or her life. The child's mood, outlook, personality, and moral values will all be affected by his or her room. Consider the toddler. Would you place them in a room with black walls and blood red trim? Certainly not! You would find something calm, soothing, with aspects for the child to look at and learn from.

Choosing the perfect room decor does not have to be a difficult matter. It is the simple process of asking yourself a few key questions.

1) What is my child interested in? Is it a particular cartoon character? Does this character offer good moral values and a solid learning slant?

2) What colors go well with the Childs interest? If your child is interested in a purple dinosaur, then you wouldn't want a deep brown colored background on the walls.

3) What all can I find to accent this interest? You will want more than just a picture of the character on the bedding. You will want posters, pictures, stuffed animals, toys, and murals.

4) How can I make this interest a learning experience? If it is the aforementioned purple dinosaur, have the dinosaur painted on the wall beside a stack of blocks with the alphabet on it. Have him writing his name even. Anything educational will do.

5) Lastly, will this be something that he will still be interested in next year? Children grow fast and inevitably lose interest in certain things quickly. Unless you want to redecorate the room every year, you will need to find something that he or she will be content with for some time.

A room is a fortress for a child. They will spend a minimum of fifty percent of their childhood within those four walls. Through bedding and decor, we can make that time worth something.

Product Details

KidAlert! v.w.s. (visual warning system) Parents know how beneficial it is for young children to play outdoors, but often are fearful to leave them unattended - particularly if their home is on a busy neighborhood street. Its common for children to immerse themselves in active outdoor play and subsequently forget the safety rules their parents, care givers and teachers have instilled in them. A pick-up game of street hockey or driveway basketball, for example, can find a youngster tearing after a puck or ball with no regard for the rules of the road. To heighten driver awareness, the folks at Step2 are proud to introduce KidAlert! v.w.s. (visual warning system) - the "children at play" safety companion. It only takes a moment to place this high child-like figure at the end of a driveway to alert all that pass by that young children are at play and caution should be taken. Its brightly-colored body with reflector-strip decal aids visibility during twilight hours and 46 1/2' high red warning flag are positioned to alert motorists to proceed with caution. For optimum effectiveness, Step2 recommends removal from the area when children are finished so its presence is only visible during actual playtime. Made in the USA.

  • Fluorescent body and reflector strip are visible even at twilight
  • 32" tall figure holds a red warning flag
  • Easy positioning allows for daily setup
  • Broad base prevents tipping

Helping Your Pre-K Child Master the Five Developmental Through Educational Toys

By the time a child enters kindergarten, he or she is expected to have a certain level of mastery over the five developmental skills: gross motor, fine motor, language, cognitive, and social.

The most effective way for children to build these skills is through interactive play with a caring adult along with educational toys designed to stimulate development. Here you'll find a break out of the five major developmental skills along with simple and fun toys that you can play with your child to encourage skill building.

Gross Motor skills require functionality of the major muscle groups that help a child balance, change positions, walk, run, jump, etc. Parent's today often feel uneasy about allowing their children to run freely outside as was common in the past. Because children are spending more time inside, it's important to remain conscious of the amount of time your child spends developing his or her gross motor skills.

Oversized cardboard play blocks and bricks allow children to use their large muscles and creativity as they stack the large blocks to build castles and fortresses. Any type of activity or game that puts the child inside of the action usually promotes gross motor skill development. Parents and children can both enjoy low impact sports games like croquet that encourage coordination, thought, and movement while promoting good sportsmanship.

Fine motor skills are those that give us the ability to use our hands nimbly to eat, draw, use scissors, tie shoes, and most other activities throughout the day. In order to pass kindergarten children are tested and required to exhibit a certain level of mastery in fine motor abilities. Activities may include cutting, writing their names, etc.

Allowing a child to use an easel with paints and crayons is not only fun, but very helpful in developing fine motor skills. The vertical angle of an easel helps to further refine these skills even more so than drawing on a flat surface. Blocks of all kinds are also ideal for developing fine motor skills. In addition to the very useful basic block set, Bristle Blocks help children to build creations like rockets and airplanes that can be picked up and interacted with. Sets like the Big Top Flippity Flops encourage children to build imaginative scenes while setting up blocks to topple in sequence like dominoes.

Language skills not only include speaking, but also the use of non verbal body language, gestures, and interpersonal communication. Another important aspect of language skills is a child's ability to read the body language and facial expressions of others to anticipate feelings and intentions.

Working with your child to create puppets and stories for a creative show in a colorful wooden puppet theater is an outstanding way for children to gain a full range of language skills. Because of the creativity that it ignites, a puppet theater is one of the most versatile educational toys, encouraging development in all skill areas. Children can live out their imaginative fantasies through their puppets, while creating interactive dialog and manipulating puppets to express a range of emotions through body language.

Cognitive/thinking skills can be developed through educational toys that promote problem solving, reasoning, remembering, learning, and understanding. Cognitive and thinking skills are arguably one of the most critical in terms of a child's ability to succeed in school and obtain a high level job in the future. Educational toys that encourage children to pick out patterns and anticipate the unseen are enhance cognitive development.

Pattern Blocks allow children to build pictorial scenes or complex, kaleidoscope-type patters with basic colored shapes. Familiarity with manipulating shapes is the basis of mathematical thinking and help children to understand how things fit together as part of a whole.

Social skills include interpersonal skills, building and maintaining relationships, empathy, and responding to the feelings of others. Many argue that highly developed social skills are the most important in terms of overall success and happiness in life.

Educational toys that give children the opportunity to anticipate the reactions of others and work together to reach an end goal, are excellent social skill developers. Working with children to stock a brightly colored wooden lemonade stand helps them to anticipate the wants and needs of others, engage in meaningful conversation, and directly connect their actions with the reactions of others, all while feeling a great deal of pride and independence.

The most effective educational toys often aren't those with moving parts, lights and sounds. They usually aren't featured on commercials during Saturday morning cartoons. Educational toys that build the five essential developmental skills are those that allow the child's mind to be the moving part, and are often most cherished and remembered through adulthood.
