K'nex is no longer just a children's toy. Recently, K'nex guns have become incredibly popular on many K'nex websites. Now you can learn the basics to building your own.
Remember those rubber band slingshots you used to play with as a kid? Well no more. While some kids were still building roller coasters, some kids realized they could be building K'nex guns that shoot over 200 feet. Here are the basics to building your own gun.
Overview
These toy guns function much the same as slingshots, only they have a barrel and trigger to allow for better accuracy and controlled shots. Here are the basic components to building your own.
Barrel
This is the basic component of all K'nex guns. Unlike slingshots, whose accuracy depends wholly on the user, the barrel increases accuracy. This can easily be built by attaching a row of connectors to a rod.
Rubber Band
Put a round in the barrel you've just made and then wrap a rubber band around the back of the barrel so that it covers the circular hole. All you have to do is pull it back and release to fire.
Trigger
Holding rounds in place is old when you can build a trigger for your gun! Just attach a connector via the circular hole to the barrel rod and clip more connectors around it. Pull the round back and let the pressure of the bullet push the trigger in place. When you want to fire, push the trigger aside.
Detailing
Now that you know the basics to building a K'nex gun, all you have to do is add magazines and more features so that you'll have coolest model on the block!
